Some people like to keep the box. It wouldn’t have been hard to find a box to fit the Lego box so there’s less damage to the box. Try a little harder.
The directions were detailed and he didn’t have any issues. He’s 12.

It's that satisfying and heartwarming feeling when you build every module in isolation and then mount it to the whole construction.

[Update on December 10, 2020]: I've finally assembled that. It took a while (about a month) of assembly but every single step lets you feel the approaching joy of accomplishment.
The only issue that I faced was the tree leaves.
Your fingers might be in pain after attaching leaves one onto another using a tiny green pin.
