Beyond that it's a satisfying jack.
It lifts my 900 pd Harley with ease!
I looked at a lot of jacks online.
This OTC advertised a minimum height of 3.5 inches.
It WILL fit under the frame rails of my 2018 Breakout while its on the jiffy stand.
It's a breeze to lift the bike and lower it using the foot pedals.
With the bike at max height it seems sturdy enough, but I didn't hop up on the bike like shown in the J&S Youtube vids
There were 4 ratcheting tie downs included and 4 loops on the jack to secure them to.
With the bike off the ground it rolls smoothly.
All 3 drain plugs were accessible when on the jack.
As others have noted, theres no assembly instructions.
But as you're buying this jack to work on your bike, your probably smart enough to put it together.
I'm glad I chose this OTC.
I had a hard time thinking about lifting a $15,000 bike over a foot using a $100 jack
Hope this helps and saves potential buyers some time searching.
Edit. Have to change my review to 1 star. Jack lasted 2 months before it wouldn’t lift the arms, let alone a motorcycle. I am waiting to hear back from OTC customer service. I also bought the 3 year warranty, so we will see what transpires. Stay tuned.
Edit 2. If you do decide to buy this jack, buy the Asurion Warranty coverage.
Edit 3. Changing my review to 4 stars.
OTC finally replaced the jack, but communication with them is frustrating.
His video was very informative so based on that I ordered mine. Came complete with everything, easy to put together and operate
Pay a little more and get an awesome jack !!
I talked to their tech service this morning and they are sending me a kit with all the washers and clips.
I don’t think much more than this one..
Otherwise, fantastic lift!!!
For you. Low and Lowered, Harley guys and gals. This jack collapses to a height of only 3.5 in. All the other jacks I researched were high @ 4.7 in.
This is the jack you want Guys and Gals.
Thank you OTC, for still having pride in your QC.
seeking a stable platform to work on your bikes, especially the heavy ones. excellent wheel brakes and
floor contact locking screws keep it firmly in place while working on, washing etc. Thank you very much, Mark
It is heavy, and I was lucky enough to be home when UPS delivered, as it took both of us to safely unload it from the truck.
The package arrived in excellent shape. It’s pretty heavy and large so a two person job is best. All the parts were included and fit well. No issues there. (Oh, and I got it PDQ - ordered on Monday, promised on Saturday, got it on Friday! No complaints!)
I’ve had my Scout up on the lift a few times already (washing, fluid check, etc...) and she sits sturdy on it. I’ve even gotten on the bike and started her up while on the lift. Rock steady! I’ve moved her around after lifted, and all seems stable and works as designed.
I had been all set to get a J&S lift. They’re pricey but have an excellent reputation. But with the Covid and shut downs, J&S was out of the picture. For about one-third the price, this lift is a godsend. Sturdy, it fits, works as described... now, if it will only last!
I received the boxed lift and struggled to get it inside the house.... it's very heavy!
I assembled this inside the house, as it was about 95° outside, but I digress.
The assembly was simple; install the jack and foot lever (3 bolts total) then the support bar (cotter pins)
and finally the support for the handle (2 more bolts). I'm confused by those who stated that the directions
left a lot to be desired, as I never even glanced at them. (And, aren't you purchasing this lift so that you can
work on your motorcycle??) You should be pretty handy to begin with.... anyway.
This thing is sturdy as Hell, and I really like the long pads where the bike is supported. (Approx. 6" longer than my HF lift.)
It rolls easily across the garage floor, which mine is a bit rough, and sits very low, giving me a lot of ground clearance to get
under the bike. This also lifts the bike close to 17" off the ground, which will make it easier to change fluids and/or work on the bike.
Did I mention it was sturdy?? There was no swaying or flesing of the supports or support beams; this thing is rock solid.
Finally, you can't complain about the price on this one; it costs less than half of the two leading lifts they have on the market,
but as far as I'm concerned, this works perfectly for my bagger - a 2015 Road Glide Special. I'm very satisfied with this item!!
I know it's double the price of other jacks on here, and I was going the $100.00 route as well until I thought. You get what you pay for, and I paid a good amount for my bike and the mods. I wouldn't want it to drop while I was working nor would I want to replace the jack with in a year.
The lift is fairly low and easily fit under my VTX even while it is on the kickstand. I believe it states the ground clearance in the listing but it is low. Releasing the lift is as easy as placing your foot on the release pedal and punching down. This bike is slowly lowered to the ground and then gently lean it on the kickstand.
The lift is very easy to move around and is very well made. This is an excellent buy and works very well.
I purchased the Torino TR6300 Creeper Seat with this and it makes it easy to sit and clean or work on the bike.
Enjoy this lift and look into the Torino Creeper. It is a good price for a great creeper.
Be safe.
The second unit that amazon sent was nearly perfect..
Thankfully amazon handled the return like the champions that they are.
First one cost me $70.00 , bought it through a tool liquidator , It was junk right out of the package...
The OTC Lift is built like a tank... Low enough to get under any bike...
Safety lock mechanism , robust construction and cylinder...
Letting the unit down can be tricky , I have a hard time feathering the release...
It works fine , Just seems to me that the bike comes down FAST...
Overall , I am extremely pleased with the purchase , and would recommend to a friend or colleague...
As a few others have stated, I'm not a big fan at the rate of descent using the foot peddle. A little fast for my comfort, but I have to say, I raised and lowered the bike 15-20 times tonight without incident, but a lower more controlled descent would be a big plus in my book for the $$ I paid for the lift, and more importantly the money I paid for my Harley.
So in summary, the lift is decent and overall well made for the money. The company could really improve their overall feedback on this item by doing the following:
1. Include a simple set of assembly instructions
2. Include a simple set of operating instructions
3. Improve the performance of the descent of the lift with a 850lb bike on it. (smooth and slow are the desired outcomes)
4. Improve the packaging
In my opinion this is simple stuff to really reap the rewards of improved customer satisfaction, and an overall more robust product and customer experience.
To respond to a couple negative reviews about the assembly, I'd have to say that if you had trouble putting this thing together, you probably should not be working on your own bike. It was literally like 5 pieces and they could only fit in very specific places by some bolts. Took less than 10 minutes to assemble.
Now be careful with the straps though! The straps anchor to the base of the jack, so if you strap down the bike tightly and later decide to lift the bike some more, you will be putting a ton of force on those straps and could break them or something on your motorcycle.
The first problem I ran into was the two bolts that hold the handle in place stripped out and did not hold the handle on very well. Since I am used to using the handle to pump the lift, I completely stripped the bolts off. That was no big problem. I locked the bike in place, moved it to its new storage location and then drilled out the holes in the frame and handle bracket. Bigger bolts, lock washers and nuts permanently resolved that problem. I think the design should have used nuts and bolts to begin with.
It was my own preference, but I picked up some heavier tie-downs at Harbor Freight. With a bike as expensive as a Gold Wing, I just didn't want to take any chances.
Except for the minor issue discussed above, this lift is every bit as good as motorcycle lifts costing considerably more. The quality seems better than the cheaper one at Harbor Freight (I try to buy at HF whenever possible, but I check quality first). If you are working on a big bike, do yourself a favor and cut a 2"x4" into four 2"x4"x4" blocks. It can be a pain to center a bike and avoid the exhausts and center stand if you are working by yourself. Line the lift up while the bike is on its sidestand, place the blocks in place on the lift and slowly lift it. Make adjustments as necessary. After you have done it once, you will know exactly where to position the lift.
It's not to hard to figure out how it goes together and if you cannot figure it out perhaps you should not be working on motorcycles in the first place
There also was no operation manual but once you get it together it's pretty obvious how it works.
The bottle jack on mine was a tough fit as the holes were just a bit off too. As noted by others, the bolt that secures the pump pedal to the bottle jack is threaded into very thin pipe and is pretty useless. Mine stripped the threading before I got close to getting it tight. I did call the tech end of the company noting that mine stripped out and that it's just not sturdy enough and suggested just drilling the pipe out and including a longer bolt and nut with it. They made note of it.
As others said, just hit the hardware store and get a longer bolt, drill on through the other side of the pump handle and put a nut on the other side of it.
The handle to move the bike around has a questionable mount in my opinion but if you want to move the bike around once it's strapped down just push on the bike, it's not a big deal
Of note, this is a large platform for biker bikes. My 650cc barely fits on the very large platform but it's very sturdy when it's in place.
Of note the free shipping made this worth it as it's very heavy at around 80# or so and the normal shipping would have been almost $50.
